White limestone cliffs rise steeply from a sea of deep cobalt, enclosing a small, hidden cove. Pines cling to the rim of the rock and add a dark green line against the sky. The light is clear and high, the midday sun leaving the stone almost white and the water saturated in colour. It is a strong, clean contrast of three elements: rock, pine and sea.
The bright light and saturated blue suit sunny interiors with white or warm plaster walls, terracotta floors and natural linen. It works in villa living rooms, covered terraces, seaside restaurants and hotel breakfast rooms. Give it a wall with daylight and at least three metres of viewing distance so the depth of the cove can open up.
